Privacy policy
Effective 27 October 2026
Crimpbook is a climbing training app for iPhone and iPad: a hangboard timer, a session and project log, and a training plan. This policy explains what we store, why, and how you delete it. We don't show ads, we don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data.
What we store and why
| Data | Why | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Your sign-in name; we email password-reset codes and a notice if your email changes | You delete your account |
| Display name | Shown in the app and in reset emails | You delete your account |
| Password | Sign-in. We store only a salted one-way hash, never the password | You delete your account |
| Body weight (optional) | To show finger strength as a percentage of body weight | You remove it or delete your account |
| Your training records: sessions, climbs and grades, hangboard sets, projects, beta notes, your plan and the assessment answers behind it (including any injuries or current pain you tell us about) | To sync your log between your devices and to build your plan | You delete them (removed from our servers within 90 days) or delete your account (immediately) |
| Photos you take with the camera or choose from your library, and the beta you draw on them | Project photos and "photo beta". We remove location and other metadata from every photo when it's uploaded | You delete the photo or your account |
| A project location (optional) | Only the point you pin for an outdoor project, to show it on your map | You remove it or delete your account |
| Send cards you share | A public link showing one sent climb: name, grade, date, number of goes, your note and, if you choose, the beta photo — never your name or email | You remove the card or delete your account |
| Server logs (IP address, time, request, user id) | Security and fixing problems | 14 days |
Backups of the database are kept for 14 days and then deleted.
What we don't collect
No advertising identifiers, no analytics or tracking tools, no contacts, no location history, no health data from Apple Health. Camera and location are used only when you tap the button that needs them. Natural-language logging and weekly summaries use Apple Intelligence on your device; that text never leaves your phone.
Who processes your data
Our servers store your account and log. An email delivery provider receives your email address to deliver reset codes and account notices. Nobody else receives your data, and we never sell it.
Deleting your data
In the app: Account → Delete account…. Your account and everything in it — sessions, climbs, hangboard sets, projects, photos, plans and share links — are deleted from our servers immediately and permanently, and the app removes its copy from your device. You can also email us to request deletion.
Children
Crimpbook is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
You can see, correct and export most of your data in the app, and delete all of it at any time. For anything else — access, correction, deletion, or a question — email us and we'll answer within 30 days.
